Hemorrhoid Cream for Dark Circles?
No matter how long I sleep, I seem to have permanent eye bags and puffiness. So a while ago, my mom suddenly very excitedly called me and told me that I should go buy myself some hemorrhoid cream for my eye bags. And I was like, WHAT? She swore that she saw it on a beauty TV show, hosted by quite a reputable dermatologist, and that everyone used it. Disbelieving, I told her if it truly worked so well, they'd have made that into a proper eye cream by now.
Then the other day, I was re-watching Miss Congeniality (one of my favourite movies!) and I've never noticed before, but in the scene where she was preparing for the swimsuit competition, Victor (her pageant consultant) hands her a tube of hemorrhoid cream, and she says,
"Hemorrhoid cream? Do you really think they'll be looking that closely?"
And he replies, "Its for your eyes bags."
This made me think, maybe hemorrhoid cream for the eye bags is not such an obscure, random and completely ridiculous concept after all! Intrigued, I googled it up.
Turns out that I am quite behind in the game, and indeed hemorrhoid cream has been a model industry (not so secret anymore) secret for quite some time! More scientifically, it contains shark oil and live yeast cell derivatives, which are believed to be the ingredients that shrinks the eye bags. However, these ingredients are said to have been removed from the American version of Preparation H (the most common brand containing these ingredients), but can still be found in the Canadian and European versions.
From online reviews, there seems to be a lot of conflict regarding this issue. Some swear by it, while others claim that it stings. Personally, I am still hesitant to try anything that wasn't specifically designed for the eyes. Has anyone used this method to treat their dark circles and puffy eyes before? What has been the results?

my mother introduced this to me a few years ago (and I too thought she was crazy) but to be fair a little bit does actually help with the bags (i don't think it has any affect on dark circles). I wouldn't say its a miracle worker or anything but its worth a try. the only thing i'd say is that maybe not to use it in the daytime because it is quite greasy looking.
Another trick to get rid of bags under eyes is to lie on your bed and let your head dangle upside down off the side. Gently press down on the skin around your eyes. Supposedly this gets the fluid that causes the puffiness out. It works pretty well, but does nothing for dark circles.
I have been using Boots No7 reviving eye gel for about a month now and I think it has really helped with the dark circles under my eyes. $11.99 at Target- definitely worth it!
The first thing I thought of was the Miss Congeniality thing when I saw the title.
Idk.. I just couldn't bring myself to walk up to the counter with hemorrhoid cream...
Go to www.drbrandtskincare.com and purchase r3p eye. It's $80. It's age fighting and it helps to repair the damage that's all ready been done and it helps with dark circles.
if this works this would be a dream come true for me! please update if you happen to try some and tell us the results.
Seriously? This should not even count as a blog post. You don't give any relative information or sources other than your "mommy" told you it was good? Give me a break. You are the worst fashion blogger I've ever read. Just stop. Right. Now.
um, 'notkosher' dont you think that was a bit unecessary? because its her blog so she can write whatever she wants in it and shouldnt have to feel like she needs to do pounds and pounds of research before putting a post up. and she did also talk about the 'shark oil and live yeast cell derivatives' in the cream so i thinkk that would count for the 'relative information' that you felt was missing. plus, noone is forcing you to read this so if one post bothers you so much you can just close the webpage. its much easier and more polite then telling someone they are the worst fashion blogger.
I found this blog post very interesting and I hope to see from the responses whether it does work. Hopefully it does!
I thought it was good info!
Three cheers for you Barneys Girl!
I'm not sure that's completely safe! I am sure that if it worked, the company would release a line of cosmetics.

LOVE YOUR BLOG! ignore the coo-coo above!
i'll have to try hemroid cream. though i'm not quite sure about it.
I m looking forward to see the outcome also. MY friend ever share that we can reduce our eyes circles by putting cold used Green tea bag on our eyes. I never try before...:P

Wow, that's crazy... I agree with your point, that if it works so well, they would've made an eye specific cream for it.. Haha, walks up to the counter "What? It's for my eyes!"

When I get bags under my eyes, I take an ice cube and place it in a clean hand towel. Then I place the ice cube over my eyes. The only thing that's worked for dark circles for me is YSL touche eclat. Hope this helps!
My moms a nurse.
It's bad for your skin. Eventually, your skin won't look so nice, so to those foolishly using it: STOP USING IT!! IT'S MEANT FOR YOUR BUTTT!!
No, don't use it. There was recently an article about how this is harmful for your skin:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/02/05/healthmag.creams/index.html?iref=mpstoryview
As someone in science, I completely agree with the article. Hemorrhoid cream for your eyes is a terrible idea.
Don't forget that eye bags are as much about diet and lifestyle as sleep. Make sure you're fully hydrated and up on your vitamins and you may not need to worry about the superficial fix!
I've heard this for the first time a year ago or so. sounds funny, but seems like it works...
After reading this post, I remembered that my mom got some HC for her bags and whatnot. I tried it, and my eyes really do look better! I'm a night creature, and I have an irregular sleep cycle, so I consequently have darkness and bags under my eyes. Well, the cream got rid of the bags and some of the darkness, but I find that home facial remedies are best. For example, put warm, moist, yummy-smelling teabags over your eyes (like the winter version of cold cucumbers) and chill for a while. Drink a latte out of a curly straw. Listen to music. Just...chill. Relaxation is best for getting rid of unhealthy looking eye problems.
And, by the way, never put disposable contacts on with wet fingers, because you'll have to try multiple times and your eyelashes will fall out. Luckily, mine are quite thick and I don't think anyones noticed!
Keep blogging, girls!

As I model, my advice is this: use cold eye masks for bags (or refrigerated tea bags or cucumbers), a great cover up for dark circles (Benefit's Boi-oing is like magic and comes in different shades) and just get some rest.
It's never smart to use something on your face that was intended for elsewhere...specifically down there. Also, most HC state that it SHOULDN'T be used for anything else.
And fyi I HAVE tried it and found almost no results and stinging.
I'm just curious how the first person stumbled across this little tidbit of information...
In any case, Prep H used to be well known for it's anti-inflammatory properties when it came out. The newer formulation does not contain as many de-puffing ingredients.

Great topic by the way.
I've been hearing about this for years and, a few months back, I finally gave in and bought a generic drugstore brand. Does nothing for me :(
Savita Exports www.AntiqueShawls.com Wholesalers and exporters of shawls, stoles, scarves, pashmina shawls, cashmere shawls, silk shawls, viscose shawls, jamawar shawls, pure pashmina shawls, evening shawls, wedding shawls, embroidered shawls, ponchos, scarf, bedspreads etc.
I've heard about this before. I never realized it had shark oil in it though. I use a lotion with shark oil called tortuga lotion for sunburns that works like a charm (a bright red sunburn will be a dark tan the next day) so it makes sense that it would work so well. Maybe they should come out with a shark oil eye creme! Uh-oh, did I just let my millions slip away ; ) ?
I used to use tortuga lotion all the time - it was great for suntan (beware no SPF at all!). I would buy it in Tijuana and I'm afraid to travel there now. Does anyone know where you can get it? There is a product from Keys manufacturing, but I don't think it's the same.
Don't know about hemorrhoid cream but I'm using this amazing Skinceuticals Eye Renewal Gel and it's amazing! Have been using it for about 3 weeks now and I can really see the difference.
I developed some lines because of late night studying & this has really made a difference. The fine lines went away after less than a week and the deeper furrows are fading too. Think it'll take longer for them to go away though.
It has lightened up my hereditary dark eye circles and my under eye bags too. The difference is very noticeable.
I got it online at www.beautyisskindeep.com and it's fantastic!
Hi,
I used to have really bad dark circles under my eyes.I recently read an article about a woman who supposedly got rid of her dark circles using a particular eye care product. I tried the same product and it worked pretty well. My dark circles had disappeared within 2 weeks. You can read more about the lady's article at the link below

Fun post. I have heard about this but thought the main ingredient is capsicum. Which is from hot peppers. Not willing to put that by my eyes, heh. Will need to check the side of the box next time I am at the store.
For nay-sayers....it's a BLOG! NOT a peer-reviewed journal, for pete's sake! She is sharing her thoughts and experiences, not trying to form a cult following.
I, for one, enjoyed reading it and the responses. Thanks for the fun and interesting post.
You may find it hard to believe and it may even sound a little distasteful given its ostensible purpose--but hemorrhoid cream is a very good way to treat dark circles under the eyes, It often contains components that are very good for the skin, such as yeast or liver oil, and can help reduce puffiness while restoring natural color to your face. If you want to treat dark circles, there are plenty of worse ways to do it than hemorrhoid cream.

i was doing some research on it and it really does work...but the only reason they haven't released a line of cosmetics is because it can cause burning and a range of eye infections.
but i've been using it for a while now and my eyes have been fine and there is no burning or anything close to a tingling sensation. i can see the difference when i dont use it and haven't gotten a good nights sleep.
one of my xbfs was told by his eye doctor to: boil eggs, wrap them in a cloth and put them over his eyes. the heat would circulate the blood. they dark circles are from a lack of blood circulation. he would do this for 30 min in the morning and 30 min before bed.
i thought it was DUMB, but i tried it one day. not only did the warmth feel good around the eyes, but my permanent dark circles did lessen. of course you gotta have the time and patience to do this.
make sure the eggs arent too hot before you put them on your eyes. he'd use the same eggs for like a week before he tossed them out.
Well I looked at like 20 responses and everyone says the same thing "gee I don't know, does anyone know?" or "I'll have to try it someday." I don't think a single person has even tried the hemorrhoid cream, but will write about how they want to know if anyone has. Geeze, try it and write about it. Don't just talk about it. I'm trying it right now and it's helping a little. If it shrinks hemorrhoid tissue, it should work on tissue elsewhere. This is about hemorrhod cream. Don't write about how you used 12 boiled eggs or how you put bacon on your eyes. Just try the damn cream and write about that!

omg!!! I used it tonight thats why I was looking this up? No I am freaking out!!! As long is there is no harm I figured I would try anthing..because I feel i have tried everything. Does anyone know of something less expensive than 80 dollars?
I inherited my raccoon eyes from my mother. Ugh. Anyway, what I found works for me is an eye cream called Extreme Eye Rescue by Isabella Pelle. I searched high and low for an eye cream that helped with dark undereye circles and puffiness - and this is it for me. It's fairly inexpensive and does what it says it does. It's done a great job of reducing my undereye darkness and my puffiness is completely gone. I also feel that the skin around my eyes looks younger, probably due to the retinol in it. As an added bonus, the company offers free shipping on all orders - which is great b/c every penny counts these days! Check them out online ;).
I use Voltaren (I'm not sure if it's american or not), which is an anti inflammatory for injuries and chronic pain and stuff. It really helps with the eye bags, and if you have one of those big, red pimples that really hurt, this makes them go down too. The only problem is it smells medicinal.
I would definitely NOT put this on your eye area. It's dangerous to put creams around the eye that aren't designed for that use. Beauty isn't worth going blind for. I personally use and recommend extreme eye rescue by Isabella Pelle. I've been an aesthetician & skin care specialist for the last 8 years, its my job to find the best stuff for my clients (and for me ;). This eye wrinkle cream is engineered to reduce dark undereye circles. Quite frankly, I think its the best eye wrinkle cream on the market today. The company discloses all the active ingredients they use in the cream and why they use them - which is nice because I'm real big into knowing exactly what's in the stuff I use. If you're curious, check them out online.
Has anyone stopped thinking about themselves for a moment and thought about all the animals - mice, rats, rabbits, birds, dogs, cats etc that have undergone torture and then died for your stupid eye creams that probably only have a pseudo effect anyway? Besides there is much evidence to suggest that haemorrhoid cream will (over time if not instantly) ruin the skin on your face, and basically ALL types of creams are completely useless! Celebrities etc get surgery/have good genes/ airbrushing that's why they look so good. Get over yourselves, age gracefully and have a heart! p.s most guys don't notice faults until you point them out, including dark eyes!
Hello everyone!
I often contemplated using hemorrhoid cream under my eyes since I seen it on a movie as well. That's just it though... It's a movie, not real even though it has been used...
I also started thinking why hasn't for instance, Preparation-H actually made an eye cream with shark oil and live yeast cell derivatives in it to help with bags under the eyes just for the simple fact of making more money? Certain ingredients are not good for under the eye area period. It can be harmful to the eyes and/or possibly cause blindness.
What I definitely know is that the vaso-constricting drugs in the cream is not good for the delicate eye area! Anyone who believes that hemorrhoid creams are effective against eye-puffiness probably used the gel type, which is infused with alcohol and witch-hazel. The witch hazel is the ingredient doing the de-puffing, since this plant extract is a favorite eye-cream ingredient, and touted by many anecdotal studies as an anti-inflammatory and skin-constrictor. It is a potent irritant not suitable for long term use around the eyes.
If you really want witch hazel you can just buy it in pure form from Walgreens or another local drugstore. You can also use it as a facial astringent, it's good to clean tattoos, helps with acne and to sooth your buttocks if need be. Be careful with witch hazel if you have allergies to natural ingredients. It is all natural.
Hide your flaws without makeup, and rebuild your collagen integrity and skin elasticity over time so you can BLAST THE PUFFY EYE ISSUE ONCE AND FOR ALL!
Please be smart and stay away from this stuff.
Hi, I agree with most of you, I too have used HC and have to admit I am well happy at how well it works and makes my eyes look intantly younger ( i'm 32) But I also have to accept that in the long run its prob not a good idea to carry on as it does stretch the skin by tightening it and all this stretching will eventually lead to extra loose skin when you either stop using it or your skin becomes immune to the ingredients.
Then your back to square one and looking worse for ware.
Take control of your health, first identify the problem with professional lab tests online, then start feeling better with high quality natural health remedies and nutritional supplements.
Ladies, it does work. People have been talking about it for years now..
A girlfriend of mine uses it religiously. Her family genes are tracking her down in the form of crows feet, so she has to lather it on twice daily.
Since I am recommending an alternative method, I have to warn those who try it of two things:
1) Avoid putting in eyes - Duh!
2) I think using too much might have the reverse effect of dark circles - and make the eye area appear much lighter (whiter) than the rest of the facial skin.
Perhaps using it as a 20-minute eye mask, or 2-3 times/week?
I have read all your comments and agree with most of you not to use this on the face..no way...but i will try it on my legs mixed with some moisturiser to tighten up the skin on the tops of my legs just for a holiday though, i will let you know how i got on with it..!
Hello,
Just so you know, DO NOT use the gel form. Make sure it says CREAM. I made the mistake of buying the gel, thinking it didn't matter and it made my skin burn and swell and become raw!

梵,
Well, Ladies,
I signed on to look into using HC for my bags. I've read every single blog, and now I'm scared to try the HC. LOL! I've jotted down quite a few tips that I will try, ThanX. But, I'm still wondering if bags can really be removed by some cream, or is surgery the final answer. Hmm! I'll keep researching.
notkosher? Seriously? I'm a guy and the only reason I didn't leave the site is because she didn't go on and on with endless research that I could get on my own. Hello, we are in the 21 Century, everyone knows how to google. Seriously sweetie...chill.
I'm going to try it because it's cheap and I really don't want to spend $100 to $180 on cream. I have to keep some shred of manhood here.
Did any one try herbal anti dark circle cream, I did and found it's really works.
Thought I would chime in. I use HC and find it's the ONLY thing that works for my very puffy under-eye area. I use it only occasionally and in a very small amount in the area where it's puffiest - right at the top of my cheek bone (hence really avoiding the eye area). I think those that are experiencing the sting must have sensitive skin as I've never experienced this. It does dry a bit shiny so I apply it before my make up. I wouldn't use it on my eyelids or right under my eye.
It works like nothing else I've tried (lots and lots of other products).
I just saw a doctor on loose women confirm that hemroid cream does get rid of bags and dark circles under your eyes... unfortunatly he also said that the shark oil ingredient that was exactly what combated the circles is not put into hemeroid cream anymore as it is not vey P.C!
Whether you would be able to get the old version of the cream somwhere else I do not know, but by the sounds of it, it would be well worth it! x x
As a small producer of organic skin care I to was very interested to read about the ointment. Always looking for a magic something to combat the wrinkles. I couldn't help but notice how most of you mentioned the fact that you suffer from dark circles under the eye's. Can I ask have any of you ever thought about what is the causation of these dark circles? do any of you suffer with kidney complaints? sometimes this is the reason for it. Not always things obvious as late nights poor diet etc also contribute to it and for your wrinkles ladies you should be supplementing with silica tissue salts you can look it up and see what the benefits are its too long to write about here but something worth looking into. hope this information gives you something to consider as always everything happens for a reason and the way our skin behaves is due to something unseen going on in the body so don't despair just get to know your body inside then the outside will love you for it
soap and glory's "you wont believe your eyes" eye cream contains haemorrhoid creme and it really works you can buy it from boots
I have hereditary under eye bags and dark circles, along with never drinking enough water and diet, etc. causing the bags to be even more puffy and dark. So I've been using top notch under eye creams by Lancome, concealers in yellowish tones to counter blueish dark under eye color, moisturizers, cleansers, buffers (Avons Timewise), etc. for years now. Then, just last night, I remembered being recommended Hemorrhoid creams. So I found a tube of Preperation H in my vast medication kit, not to mention it had expired a month ago, and after doing my bi-weekly buffing routine with Timewise, I finished off with a dab of Preperation H and went to bed. This morning I checked my eyes and to my long awaited surprise the bags were dimished! They weren't gone, but they looked great! I was overjoyed. Nothing I'd ever used, no matter how expensive, or recommended, worked a miracle that this did! I swear by it now! So I put another dab on and went shopping and just checked them again and they still look great even without makeup. I'm super thrilled. This Preperation H was purchased at Walmart in the USA in California and it's ingrediants are: Active ingrediant: Hydrocortisone 1%; Inactive ingrediants: BHA, carboxymethylcellulose sodium, cetyl alcohol, citric acid, edetate disodium, glycerin, glyceryl oleate, glyceryl stearate, lanolin, methylparaben, petrolatum, propyl gallate, propylene glycol, propylparaben, simethicone, sodium benzoate, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearyl alcohol, water, xanthan gum. All in order as written on tube. So for those who desperately need a huge fix like me, I highly recommend it! I have heard through my research (after trying it I researched it, which may not have been so smart), I read that some people have allergic reactions to it, and it even says on the tube "avoid contact with eyes" (I was extra careful not to get it into my eyes and used a Q-tip to apply it), but that was not the case for me and it is the answer to my prayers! Lindsay D., Pismo Beach, CA.
I wrote the comment directly above about how wonderful hemorrhoid cream was for me, but I forgot to mention that the Prep. H cream I used did not have the shark ointment or oil that keeps being mentioned, although I did list the ingrediants, and it still worked wonderfully for me!!! You don't need to order it from another country or state. Just go to walmart and pick it up. Also, I used it directly under my eyes right up to my lower eyelashes covering my entire bag/dark circle on each eye, but carefully without getting it into my eyeball area. I had no problems. I have just purchased the cream after hearing about it on the radio and OMG it works instantly! i applied it underneath my eyes even close to my lashes, firstly i tried putting it on 1 eye to see if there was a difference and there really is, ill just have to remember to put a very very thin layer next time, i then applied face cream avoiding the eye area, then my foundation, my face looks so radiant :) im in love.
Hi Barney's Girl! When I saw your title, hemorrhoid cream for dark circles....? I actually had the same reaction as yours. "What?" I haven't tried it though. And I’m not an expert with eye bag removal creams. Well, actually, I just arrived from my cosmetic surgeon and he suggested this eyelid surgery. NJ , I believe and other states are open to these kind of cosmetic surgeries. However, I'm still thinking about it. But I'm already 75% sure of it. My eye bags are just hideous. I need to start doing my research on blepharoplasty. NJ area thankfully has many cosmetic surgeon that I can rely on. Hopefully, I can get rid of these eye bags soon.
Thanks Barney’s girl for sharing this interesting post!

The cream does help with the pesky eye problem but it is not for everyone. Just like everything else in the world! The tea bags are definitely the way to go I do a mud mask from sallys beauty and tea bags cold or warm every night. It absolutely works and so does the HC! This blog was very insightful but there is no need for the unpleasantries. The only way to know the outcome of anything is to try it as long as your not allergic its worth a try!

Hemorrhoid cream for dark circles? Good one, ha ha :-)
Nice one!
I haven't tried it myself but my cousin did. She was up crying the night before her sisters wedding and asked me to go get some for her bc she would try anything to get rid of the bags from crying....needless to say she looked great for the wedding! I've been thinking about trying it bc it did work for her!
i needed this post to help me with my dark circles issues too..
I heard a frozen spoon placed on the area helps a lot

Hydrocortisone thins your skin. Check it out. But i tried generic prep h from target and it really works.
Hi, My sister used Hemorrhoid cream for her under eye dark circles, it worked. But i have a friend who tried it too and it didnt work, he had an eye allergy, was swollen and very sore for 3 days.

Okay I just bought the PH cream to try it out... One thing I will say as an esthetician is APPLY onto the bone you feel under your eye.. It will help prevent the stinging feeling as that area naturally moves the product upward to the eye! Do not put any product directly under your eye.. Also the thoughts of this cream is ment for your bum... Not your eyes.. I would say explore new things!! Cucumbers and tea were ment to be eaten but just so happen to help eyes just like mabye... Hemorrhoid cream? Just like using tooth paste on zits to dry them out! Just sayin...
This one isn't a toughie. What causes hemorrhoids? Congestion of blood, mostly. Under-eye circles are usually caused by genetic fatty tissue, congested blood or bruising, or puffiness from water. Hemorrhoid cream won't help with fatty tissue, but the others you can potentially help with it.
I'm a former exotic dancer and have used it quite a bit. My advice?
Save it for occasions. The big date or the wedding that you got little sleep before. Photoshoots. Things like that. The ingredients tighten skin by pulling moisture out of it, regular use will give you more wrinkles and dry skin long term.
Apply to the bottom part of your eyebag, which is usually the heaviest, near the bone. If you get it in your eye it will irritate, making your eyes even puffier.
Always cream, never ointment. I can't testify to ointment not working, but creams and ointments have different purposes-- creams absorb quickly with little greasy residue, ointments hold medicine against the area for longer and protect raw skin against outside air and germs. You want something that will absorb fast and work immediately, not something that'll hang around greasy and determined and risk transferring into your eye!

i never got Hemorrhoid . i have read peoples reviews on how it feels. thanks for sharing these articles for Hemorrhoid Treatments .
This was a good post and good follow ups too. Hemoriod cream is also recommended by Army recruiters and used by wrestlers to get rid of excess fluid around the mid section. Bags under eyes is fluid retention so why not try? The onlt thing I'd be careful to avoid is any combination product that might have menthol or something that would cause eye irritation.
